William Hogland graduated (Master of Science) in Civil Engineering at University of Lund 1978, Doctor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1986 and Associate professor at Lund University in 1994.
In 1988, he became research leader at Waste Management and Recovery, Department of Water Resources Engineering at Lund University. During these years, Hogland was participating several national and international committees in both Urban Hydrology and Waste Management. In 1989, he started his activities in the International Energy Agency (IEA), Bioenergy Agreement on MSW as chairman of the working group and liaison activities. He has experiences of teaching and research in over 50 countries, and has been invited as a guest speaker at universities in 15 countries, among them Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, India, Thailand, Tunisia and USA. Since 1994 the research has mainly been directed to System analysis of waste management in industries and municipalities, natural systems for wastewater treatment and river catchment analysis.
Hogland has more than 350 published reports and papers. He has also written textbooks and made videos in the area of hydrology and waste management. Hogland has also been employed as a lecture and supervisor in several international courses in the area of water resources and waste management in developing countries. Hogland has been the organiser of several international conferences as “Latin American – Swedish Seminar on Waste Management”, in Rio de Janeiro (1995), Brazil and “Kalmar Eco-tech”, in Kalmar (1997, 1999), Sweden.
From 1997 to 1999 he was acting professor in Technical Environmental Science at the Department of Technology, Kalmar University. In 1999 he was awarded the chair Environmental Engineering at the Department of Technology at Kalmar University.
In 2007 he got his second professor title, this in Eco-Technology with Focus on Innovation Systems at Mid Sweden University.
